Kista - Science City
Where: Kista, Sweden

When: Sunday, April 29, 2018
Who: Stockholm University - NOD Building
What: Institution for Data Tech Systems - currently working towards the 5G network. The science City has shown a 100% growth rate since it started back in the 80's. The main foundation of Kista- Science City is based on what they call The Triple Helix; which is founded in academia, the public sector and the business community. It is an innovation cluster acting as an incubator for small businesses.

Innovation: 100% innovative, years ago the idea of creating a city that revolves around innovation and sustainability for not only the people who work and live there, but for the country and eventually the world. By functioning as an incubator for small businesses it helps the students, clients and the organization to work as a team and not as individuals. They are currently building the 5G network which can allow things like subway systems to be run electronically without a driver. I believe this is innovative because humans are always looking for the next best thing, and the 5G network is as good as it gets.
Sustainability: If Kista continues as it is, it will be sustainable for generations to come. I only expect growth from this city. During the presentation, we were told that not very many people live within the city limits as there isn't much nightlife. I believe that as it expands and grows, more and more people who work there, will also live there. As the organization grows, so will the city. I believe they have no where to go but up.

How: I believe this is all possible because of its Triple Helix foundation. Everyone is on the same page when it comes to the growth of this organization.

Reflection: I know that Peterborough has it's own Innovation cluster and Fleming plays a large role in it. However, I feel like it could use a little more Marketing. For 3 years I heard about it in school and it never really peaked my interest. I think it would be great if Fleming integrated the Innovation Cluster into some of its courses. Javier came to a few of my classes, but (no offence!) I don't think it was enough. It was just another person coming and speaking for a quick minute. If there was a better way to get students interested AND involved, I believe creating a "Triple Helix" would have a better chance of thriving in our town.
